The XVI Synod of Bishops

Recently, Pope Francis announced that there would be a worldwide synod exploring ways in which the universal church can improve its ability to listen to the faithful. The theme for the synod is, “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission.”

The Holy Spirit continues to guide the church as he has guided her in the upper room at Pentecost. Pope Francis reminds us that we must continue to reflect on our life and mission so to better impact the world and increase our ability to encounter Christ. Your participation and input are a necessary and vital piece to this process. We will be announcing the date(s) of our own parish consultive sessions soon.

To learn more about the Synod, visit website.

The Prayer of the Synod

Adsumus Sancte Spiritus
We stand before You, Holy Spirit,
as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us,
make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go
and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful;
do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path
nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity
so that we may journey together to eternal life
and not stray from the way of truth
and what is right.
All this we ask of You,
who are at work in every place and time,
in the communion of the Father and the Son,
forever and ever.
Amen.

Jesus invites us to follow him and make God’s way our own.

As we respond in faith to God’s call, our way becomes less our own and more of one united to his love. Jesus invites us to follow him, and when our spiritual blindness interferes with our ability to do so, Jesus heals and redeems us through his compassionate love. Jesus guides his disciples and they support one another.

Most Reverend Joseph F. Naumann
Chairman, USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities

Although we must cherish, protect, and defend human life year-round, the Catholic Church in the United States sets aside each October as Respect Life Month.

This year’s theme, Christ Our Hope: In Every Season of Life, is particularly suited for our times. While attacks against human life seem to grow ever more numerous and callous, we know that Christ has conquered sin and death. Through our Christian hope in the Resurrection, we are given the grace to persevere in faith.

Be assured of my prayers for you and for our common efforts to bring about a world in which every life is cherished. And so, together, may we hold fast to Christ, our hope.

For more Respect Life Resources, please see the flyer at the entrance of the Church.

Father, all the elements of nature obey Your commands.
Protect us and all Your people
During this season of storms and hurricanes.
Calm our fears and help us to prepare
Our hearts as well as our homes.
Help us to see You
In all we may encounter,
And help us to minister to each other
In Your Name.
Through Christ Our Lord,
Amen.

Catholic 'beliefs' and the abortion debate

Well, yes, in precisely the same sense that Catholics "believe" that the Earth is spherical, not flat; that Venus is the second planet in the solar system; that a water molecule is composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom; that blood circulates through the body; that the human heart has four chambers; and so forth and so on.

The Archdiocese of Miami’s guidelines for masks and social distancing have not changed. Vaccinated people can get COVID. Whether they can then transmit the virus to others, is unclear. We should continue to encourage those who are hesitant to be vaccinated to do so at their earlier convenience. Children 12 year of age and older are now eligible.

For those who are particularly vulnerable, we pray for safety and protection.

For all who experience fear or anxiety, we pray for peace of mind and spirit.

For affected families who are facing difficult decisions between food on the table or public safety, we pray for policies that recognize their plight.

For those who do not have adequate health insurance, we pray that no family will face financial burdens alone.

For those who are afraid to access care due to immigration status, we pray for recognition of the God-given dignity of all.

For our brothers and sisters around the world, we pray for shared solidarity.

For public officials and decisionmakers, we pray for wisdom and guidance.

Father, during this time may your Church be a sign of hope, comfort and love to all. Grant peace. Grant comfort. Grant healing.

“Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters. Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?” - James 2: 5

Discrimination and prejudice are evils in our society. To be Christian disciples and good stewards, we must understand the kingdom of God is open to ALL who love Him.
