From the Desk of Father Davis

Are you connected to the vine?

This weekend we hear in our Gospel the Lord's self description. He says, "I am the vine, you are the branches."

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month

There are a variety of reasons for maintaining appropriate boundaries. Personal boundaries are critical for selfcare and promoting mental and emotional health. We set them to protect ourselves.

When we are involved within an organization, there are expectations of appropriate behavior within relationships and interactions. Most people have good intentions, but this does not always equal appropriate behavior. We need to be mindful of our own behavior that reflects our boundaries, the perception and possible impact of our behavior, the expectations within an organization, what boundary violations look like, and how to communicate concerns.

Vote No on 4

“Florida Voters be warned: Amendment 4 would enshrine abortion through all trimesters in our state’s constitution and eliminate all laws that even modestly affect abortion including parental consent laws, informed consent laws, and other safety regulations that protect women seeking an abortion. It goes too far for even most people who consider themselves to be pro-choice, creating loopholes that will allow for abortions in the second and third trimesters,” said Sara Johnson, Florida Voters Against Extremism’s Statewide Grassroots Director.

Amendment 4 doesn’t tell voters that it fails to define key terms like “viability” or “patient’s health” – leaving it up to a so-called “healthcare provider” to make all of these critical determinations. That’s how Amendment 4 would allow late-term abortions, when a baby is capable of feeling pain, with no protections for the baby. Then, most outrageously, it doesn’t tell voters that a “healthcare provider” doesn’t have to be an actual medical doctor but could be any person from a long list of health-related fields, even a non-medical employee of an abortion clinic.

Florida voters looking for more information or ways they can help defeat Amendment 4 should visit www.TooExtreme4FL.com.

This is a grassroots, non-profit organization, dedicated to responding to the mandate of Jesus to preach the Gospel to all nations by taking the Catholic Faith to the streets. Christ’s call to evangelize was made to every Catholic Christian, to bring the Gospel, found fully in the Catholic Church.

As an on-the-street Catholic evangelization organization, St. Paul Street Evangelization provides an avenue for people to share the truth and beauty of the Catholic Faith with the world. SPSE uses a simple, nonconfrontational method of evangelization in which we make ourselves available to anyone to answer questions about faith and to pray with those who request it.

Parish Development Office Reports Successes

The efforts of our Parish Development Office have been fruitful again this year.

The popular Walkathon, held last October for our students, brought in $145,862 dollars of profit, ear-marked for new clear touch boards, new Pre-K equipment, exterior fencing enhancements around the playground and support towards our full-time police presence each school day.

The Parish Craft Fair continues to grow in popularity each Fall. A modest but meaningful $8,368 came to the parish to support the office renovation project.

Our recent Grand Auction Dinner Dance, held in our gymnasium last month to celebrate our 65th anniversary as a parish church, brought in a whopping $238,347 in profit!

Many initiatives will be supported by this clarion effort; e.g., technology updating in our school classrooms and offices, new equipment and programming for the STEAM lab, new computers and computer software for our school computer lab, modernizing two sets of customized doors for the school, meaningful support for dicoesan charities, and seed money for the soon-to-be-announced Capital Campaign, which will seek to underwrite the construction of SIX new classrooms for our growing student body. Our school currently has a waiting list!

Thanks to all who have been so involved in advancing the work and successes of our parish Development Office!
