The Gospel and second reading for this Fifth Sunday of Easter emphasize the need for us to remain in Christ, and he in us. This shared life finds expression in the image of the one vine and many branches. We become living branches of the vine, members of the Body of Christ through baptism, Eucharist, and confirmation, sacraments of sharing God’s own life. The First Letter of John describes the fruit of this vine as active love of neighbor: “And his commandment is this: we should believe . . . and love one another” (1 John 3:23).

Our first reading from Acts shows us an example of someone who shares in Christ’s life in the person of Saint Paul. Paul’s fearless witness, even at the risk of his life, is proof to everyone that the risen Lord’s Spirit truly fills him with life and is bearing fruit in him.

Sarmientos Vivos

El Evangelio y la segunda lectura para este Quinto Domingo de Pascua hacen hincapié en la necesidad de que permanezcamos en Cristo y él permanecerá en nosotros. Esta vida compartida está representada en la imagen de la vid que tiene muchos sarmientos. Nos convertimos en sarmientos vivos de la vid, en miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo por el Bautismo, la Eucaristía y la Confirmación, por los sacramentos que nos hacen compartir la vida de Dios. La primera carta del apóstol san Juan describe el fruto de esta vid como el amor activo al prójimo: “Y este es su mandamiento: que creamos . . . y que nos amemos unos a otros” (1 Juan 3:23).

En la primera lectura de los Hechos contamos con un ejemplo de una persona que participa de la vida de Cristo en la persona de san Pablo. El audaz testimonio de Pablo, incluso a riesgo de perder su propia vida, es prueba para todos de que el Espíritu del Señor resucitado verdaderamente lo llena de vida y da fruto en él.

Did you know...The Catholic Church is deeply committed to protecting children from abuse and holding people accountable for inflicting such pain. In December 2021, the revised Book VI of the Code of Canon Law went into effect.

This is the most recent of several documents that specifically address the issue of the abuse of children. Other documents include Vos estis lux mundi and Vademecum. These documents expand the acts which are considered abusive, clarify the manner in which the cases are processed, and hold people accountable for their action or inaction with regard to processing of a case.

Of significant importance is attention given to the care of victim survivors and all who have been harmed. Bishops in the US lead the way for these changes with the implementation of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People 20 years ago. Today every diocese and eparchy must have in place systems for tending to those who have been harmed, protecting those in our care and seeking restorative justice.

Abril está designado a nivel Nacional como el Mes de la Prevención del Abuso Infantil.

¿Sabia qua..? La Iglesia Católica está profundamente comprometida con la protección de los niños frente a los abusos y Ia exigencia de rendición de cuentas a las personas que infligen ese dolor. En diciembre del 2021 entró en vigor el Libro VI actualizado del Código de Derecho Canónico.

Este es el más reciente de varios docu-mentos que abordan especificamente el tema de los abusos a menores. Otros documentos incluyen el Vos estis lux mundi y el Vademecum. Estos documentos amplian los actos que se consideran abusivos, aclaran el modo en que los casos son procesados, y hacen rendir cuentas a las personas por su accion u omision con respecto al procesamiento de un caso.

Es de gran importancia la atención que se presta al cuidado de las victimas sobrevivientes y de todos los que han sido perjudicados. Los obispos de EE.UU. abrieron el camino para estos cambios con la aplicación de Ia Carta para la Protección de los Niños y Jóvenes hace 20 años. Hoy en dia, todas las diócesis y eparquías deben contar con sistemas para atender a los que han sido lastimados, proteger a los que están bajo nuestro cuidado y buscar Ia justicia reparadora.

April 28th, Our Second Collection is for Catholic Home Missions

Today April 28th, we participate in a special collection for mission parishes in the United States and its Pacific and Caribbean dependencies. This Appeal strengthens the Church at home by supporting Catholic communities in need. It assists dioceses that serve the pastoral needs of Hispanics and other ethnic groups. It enables Catholic parishes in poor and remote communities to provide Mass, the sacraments, and religious education for their people. The Catholic Home Missions Appeal gives us a chance to respond to the Father's call to love our neighbor. Please give generously!

La Segunda Colecta de Este Fin de Semana es Para Las Misiones Católicas

Hoy Domingo 28 de abril participaremos en una colecta especial por las parroquia misionarias en los Estados Unidos y en sus dependencias del pacifico y el Caribe. Esta colecta fortalece la iglesia domestica brindando soporte a las comunidades católicas hispanas y de otros grupos. Con ello se posibilita que las parroquias católicas de comunidades remotas y pobres puedan celebrar Misas y proveer los sacramentos y educacion religiosa a sus gentes. El Llamado para las Misiones Católicas nos da la oportunidad de responder al Ilamado de nuestro Padre de amar a nuestro vecino. ¡Agradecemos su ayuda!

What a Great way to Say "Happy Mother's Day"

Sunday, May 12th is the day set aside to honor all Mothers, both living and dead.

There will be a special Novena of Masses celebrated to remember our mothers. Cards are available at the back of the Church in order to enroll your mother's name.

Please complete the envelope and drop it in the Collection or at the Rectory Office.

¡Que grandiosa manera para decir "Feliz Diá de las Madres"

El domingo 12 de Mayo es el día que separamos para honrar a todas las Madres, por igual a las que viven y a las que han fallecido.

Se celebrará una Novena especial en las Misas para recordar a nuestras madres. Habrán tarjetas disponibles junto a las puertas de la Iglesia para que inscriba el nombre de su madre.

Por Favor complete el sobre y colóquelo en la colecta o entréguelo el la Rectoría.

May 3rd is the First Friday of the month. We will have confessions at 7:30 am, and Mass is at 8:00 am.
